Why We Run

Daniel Lazrak Vadsholt

“Running isn’t just exercise for me anymore; it’s a way to connect with myself.”

Running — from weight loss to mental clarity

Daniel is a 26-year-old tattoo artist based in Inner Copenhagen. His days are built around long sessions of deep focus, creativity, and constant social interaction - a rhythm that demands energy and presence. Because he starts work later than most, his mornings have become his time to reset. That’s when he runs.

What began as a simple attempt to lose weight in his early twenties quickly turned into something much bigger. In the beginning, Daniel didn’t enjoy running - it felt like something he had to do. But the more he did it, the more he realized how accessible it was, how energizing it felt, and eventually, how much he genuinely enjoyed it.

“Running gives me something nothing else does - a calm start, a clear mind, and the feeling that I’m in control of my day before it even begins.”

Running became his way to start the day with clarity. His way to gather his many thoughts. His way to enter work with energy instead of exhaustion. And over time, it became a form of meditation - a place where he could completely zone out, disconnect from noise, and reset.

One running moment stands out: his first half marathon. Completely exhausted, he suddenly felt the biggest rush of energy as the crowd cheered, clapped, and even shouted his name. People he had never met lifted him through the hardest part of the race.

“It was surreal - I had no idea the running community was that nice,” Daniel says.

“What started as a way to burn calories quickly became something I truly enjoyed. Over time, running has become central to my mental well-being - a way to connect with myself, find calm, and gather the energy to face everything else I want to achieve in life.”

Running as Motivation and Recharge

Daniel’s work demands long hours of concentration - and a great deal of social interaction. By the end of the day, his energy is often drained, which is why running has become his most effective way to recharge. It gives him a mental reset, quickly and reliably, no matter how his day has looked.

As he puts it: “Running resets me in a way nothing else can - it gives me energy, focus, and the feeling that I’m starting over, no matter how the day has been.”

What he appreciates most is the flexibility of running. You choose the distance, you choose the pace - and no matter what, you always feel better afterward. On weekdays, he typically runs 30–60 minutes: long enough to feel renewed, yet short enough to always fit into his schedule. Even on days where motivation is low, he reminds himself of a simple truth he’s learned over time:

"It’s just 30 minutes — and I’ve never regretted a run.”

Right now, Daniel is training for his first major goal: a Half Ironman in Helsingør this summer. It’s a challenge that pushes him, motivates him, and gives his training a renewed sense of purpose - a reason to show up, even on the difficult days.

Running Brands — Identity, Passion, and the Right Values

Daniel is strongly drawn to running brands built on genuine passion - brands created by people who truly love the sport. That authenticity is what makes a brand meaningful to him, and it’s exactly why Toujours Actif resonates so deeply. He values brands that prioritize real intentions over empty marketing, where the products feel like they’re made by runners, for runners: "If you love the sport, you create better products" - and for Daniel, that shines through clearly with Toujours Actif.

He explains that the brand motivates him to strive for more, because he can feel the sincerity behind it: the community spirit, the honesty, and the passion that the brand is built on. It speaks to him in a way performance-driven branding never has.

When it comes to running apparel, Daniel doesn’t hesitate about his favorite. He loves running in tights in general, and Toujours Actif’s model hits the mark perfectly. With two practical pockets, he doesn’t need a running vest - he can bring his keys and a gel, and that’s all he needs.

Running as Self-Connection and Growth

Looking back, Daniel sees clearly how running has evolved for him. What began as a simple way to burn calories soon became something he genuinely enjoyed. Over time, it has grown into a central part of his mental well-being - a practice that shapes not just his body, but his mind.

“Running isn’t just exercise for me anymore; it’s a way to connect with myself.” he says.

Running brings him calm. It strengthens him - both mentally and physically - and creates the space he needs to tackle everything else he wants to achieve in life. It’s a moment to breathe, reflect, and reset, helping him navigate the pressures and ambitions of daily life.

For Daniel, it’s no longer about losing weight or hitting a number on the scale. It’s about feeling good, inside and out.
