Why We Run

Casper Nygaard Hansen

"I realized that I actually love running. That it made sense in my body and brought calm to my mind. That I was good at it — and that it made me happy. It stuck with me."

Running — from a weight loss tool to pure passion

Casper Nygaard Hansen is a 26-year-old self-imployed photographer and videographer based in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. Working primarily within sports, his professional life already revolves around movement, energy, and passion - but running holds a special place in his heart. What started as a way to lose weight quickly grew into something much greater. Running became a source of calm, strength, and self-discovery.

"I quickly realized that running was effective - the kilos disappeared. But something bigger happened along the way: I discovered that I actually love running."

Today, running is far more than exercise for Casper. It’s a lifestyle, a way to connect with others, and a personal journey of growth. From the first casual runs to challenging ultra-trails, he continues to chase new adventures - driven not by numbers or performance, but by pure passion.

Joining the MK Running Community in Copenhagen marked a turning point for him. What he thought would be a training group became a circle of close friends - people who share his love for the sport and the camaraderie that comes with it. Through shared kilometers and post-run moments, Casper found belonging and motivation that goes far beyond the physical aspect of running. It was also through MK Running that he met one of his closest friends today, Emil Albrechtsen, who showed him that running isn’t just an individual pursuit, but a team effort - a way to lift and support each other through every challenge.

"Running is much more than just covering kilometers, hitting perfect splits, or setting records. Casper’s story is a perfect example of this — it’s about community, making new connections, and the joy of staying healthy, while sharing the journey with others."
- Sebastian, Founder of Toujours Actif

"Running gives me a unique sense of affirmation. There’s something powerful about being able to set a goal on your own and fight your way toward it. You can have the support of your community, your club, and your friends behind you, but in the end, it’s still myself I have to be able to rely on."

Running as Self-Realization and Adventure

For Casper, running has become much more than exercise - it’s a way to nurture himself, build personal strength, and at the same time share moments with his community and friends. Each run, each moment on the trail, brings a sense of accomplishment and clarity. It’s not about distance or speed - it’s about the feeling of moving, the quiet moments alone, and the satisfaction of showing up for himself alongside others.

"Running started as a way to get fit, but over time it’s become so much more — it’s about the people I meet, the moments I share, and the challenges I set for myself and accomplish together with my community."

Over time, Casper’s “why” has evolved - from losing weight, to finding community, to personal growth, and now to seeking adventures with his closest friends. Through MK Running and Trail Squad, he has built friendships that go beyond running, where support, laughter, and shared experiences make every run meaningful. He is now ready for bigger challenges like Hammer Trail on Bornholm and the UTMB race in France in 2026, exploring Europe’s most inspiring trail runs while enjoying the camaraderie that makes running a source of joy and belonging.

Running Brands — The Right Values and Identity

Running apparel matters to Casper. However, he doesn’t care for gadgets or overly technical features - he just wants pieces that fit perfectly and feel comfortable without having to think about them.

“When it comes to running apparel, I want something simple, functional, and comfortable. The fit has to be spot on and stay in place - without me having to think about it.”

At the same time, Casper believes that a running brand’s values and the identity it represents are just as important as the apparel itself. He gravitates toward brands that mirror his own approach to running - simple, functional, and authentic - rather than ones focused on flashy patterns or gimmicky features.

"That’s why I like Toujours Actif. It’s clean, comfortable, and made to be used. Not to scream ‘performance,’ but because it actually performs in practice."

Casper’s values align perfectly with Toujours Actif’s. He connects with the alternative the brand offers in an industry so focused on performance. The values of being inclusive and, more broadly, focusing on what truly matters in running - the community, the emotions, and the general health benefits it brings - are all things Casper appreciates. Additionally, Casper feels that the brand’s values align perfectly with its apparel design - it’s comfortable and functional, while the fit is clearly intended to suit a broad range of runners, not just elite athletes.

"I have many favorites from Toujours Actif, and it’s hard to choose just one. If I had to pick, I’d probably go with their Short Tights, Simplicity Running Vest and Running Pants"

Casper explains that the Short Tights have pockets for everything he needs and stay in place even on long runs. He describes the vest and pants as incredibly comfortable and soft, with a design that works not only for running but also as part of an everyday outfit.

And for Casper, that’s exactly what he needs - comfort, functionality, and simplicity.
